A proof that good maintenance pays off

november 27, 2023

In the middle of the 90s, Optimar delivered the first edition of Olav E. Fiskerstrand’s pelagic factory. The company produces pelagic and whitefish of high quality on the West Coast of Norway and has done so for more than 100 years.

When you visit Olav E. Fiskerstrand’s factory today, you will find some of the same equipment delivered all those years ago. This is solely because of good maintenance and impressive routines.

– Olav E. Fiskerstrand keeps their equipment clean. They follow strict maintenance routines and use only original spare parts from Optimar, says Sales Manager Onshore Geir Espen.

He also explains that this equipment was originally designed for rough offshore use aboard large trawlers. Optimar has always designed and manufactured its products for tough conditions, which means no compromises on quality. The same level of quality is, of course, delivered on land.

A team effort

However, after talking with the CEO of Olav E. Fiskerstrand, Eldar Overå, we quickly learned that it’s a team effort.

– Optimar is hands-on. We collaborate on both After Market and New Sales. If there are ever any issues we cannot handle, they fix it straight away, Overå explains.

This is crucial during the high season. When a vessel loaded with mackerel anchors up, the equipment has to work. Great values are lost if the mackerel doesn’t get into the freezers fast enough. This responsibility the Optimar team is well aware of.

– An understanding of our client’s business is essential. You have to answer your phone no matter what day or time it is when working in this industry, Otlo states.

Still a record breaking factory

After all these years, the factory is still fit to break some records. During high season there are 45 people working in the factory, handling a lot of fish.

– Usually, 55-60 tons of fish run through our factory every hour. This year we handled 760 tons in one day and that’s a record. At least for the last five years, the CEO of Olav E. Fiskerstrand tells us.

We already look forward to the next service call from Olav E. Fiskerstrand and appreciate our close cooperation.
