Stun & Bleed System turns service boat into multi-purpose vessel
The service boat FDA Emilie is under construction at Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted and set for delivery in August. To maximize efficiency and profitability, it will be equipped with a bleeding system from Optimar—allowing the vessel to handle both service operations and fish processing seamlessly.
With two fish tanks totaling 115 cubic meters, FDA Emilie will take operational flexibility to the next level.
More than just a service boat
– "FDA Emilie is already a solid service boat with high-capacity cranes and deck equipment. Now, with Optimar’s bleeding system, it becomes a true multi-purpose vessel," says Tommy Grønning from Finnsnes Dykk & Anleggservice.
A Kinder Egg of the Sea
– "We’ve worked together for over a year to find the best solution, and the result is a real powerhouse of a boat. It can handle anchoring, net handling, and bleeding – a true Kinder Egg," says Hans Owen Thunem, VP Global Sales Aquaculture at Optimar.
Smart design and strong collaboration
With FDA Emilie, Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted delivers its 12th vessel featuring an Optimar solution.
– "Fitjar is a leading shipyard in bleeding boats, and it’s always exciting to develop new concepts together. Their team has done an impressive job, resulting in a flexible and future-ready vessel," Thunem adds.
Why a Stun & Bleed System is such a powerful upgrade
Integrating a stun and bleed system into a service boat boosts efficiency, fish welfare, and sustainability. Here’s why it makes sense:
Lower costs & reduced fuel consumption
Compliance with fish welfare and industry regulations
More business opportunities & competitive edge
Increased flexibility & long-term profitability
With this multi-purpose setup, FDA Emilie is ready to hit the waters after the Aqua Nor exhibition in August. We wish them the best of luck!
